What having a personal sanctuary means to me

What having a personal sanctuary means to me

I use the term ‘personal sanctuary’ a lot. It’s on my website and I know I’ve used it when posting on Instagram.

I REALLY started to think about what that means to me yesterday.

I used to think that having a calm, clean, Pinterest perfect home was the key to making my space feel like a sanctuary. You know the space- it’s the one that’s so stark it barely looks like anyone lives there, it has just a few high end pieces of furniture, a bookcase with only a couple books and maybe a cool Scandinavian vibe to it? (If not- find me on Pinterest and you’ll see it all over my dream home board.)

BUT…

Who actually has that home? Who has time to maintain that home? Especially if you have furry four-legged family members and kids sharing that space.

So, I’ve changed my mind about what having a ‘personal sanctuary’ means to me.

It means having just a small piece of space, whether it’s a cozy corner of the sofa, a favorite chair, or just on a freshly made bed. It’s a place where you can just relax, or read, or cry, or just be.

Its a small space that, even if it’s just for a short time, is completely your own. Add in a few soft pillows, a candle, maybe blanket and a book? And that’s my spot for the day (or hour… or even 10 minutes!)

It may be just a small nook but you get to add in all the good stuff to make it yours.

Its like having just a slice of the pie but getting to add all the whip cream you want. (Can you tell I have Thanksgiving on the brain?!)

What are your must haves for your personal sanctuary space?
